Welcome to the personal page of Shaunna L. Donaher. I received my Ph.D. in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) in 2012. I am currently a Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Emory University.
My interest in the physical sciences, especially meteorology, developed at an early age. I spent my college and graduate-school years participating in many field projects and developing my own knowledge about Earth processes. More information about my research experiences and interests can be found here or via the Research link at the top of the page.
I have always been passionate about teaching and communicating science to others in effective and engaging ways. As part of this initiative, I petitioned my Ph.D. committee to allow me to be the first student to undertake a joint project between the Meteorology Department and Teaching/Learning Department at the University of Miami. The doctorate courses I have taken in Teaching and Learning have encouraged me to thoughtfully analyze the way we work to improve science education, including curriculum development, assessment, and how teachers are trained. I have a wide range of teaching experience in the earth and physical sciences, as well as in tutoring math subjects, as can be seen here, or via the Teaching and Outreach link at the top of the page. I have taught large lecture courses, labs, blended courses with an online component, mini-term courses, field-courses, and dual-enrollment classes at MAST Academy High School where juniors and seniors earn college credit for the class.
